Carthage R-9 District mourns loss of sixth grader

(From the Carthage R-9 School District)

With an extremely broken heart, I need to inform everyone Hannah Hurlbut, a Carthage 6th grader, died Saturday after spending three days in a Springfield hospital.

Her death was due to an undiagnosed medical condition and was not associated with COVID-19.

Hannah’s mom, Ashley Weston, teaches at Mark Twain.

Administrators and counselors contacted the parents of Hannah’s classmates.

All Intermediate Center children will receive a letter describing various ways to grieve and receive emotional support. Please remember Hannah's family, friends, and R-9 staff in your thoughts and prayers.
