Billy Long: Trump meeting COVID-19 challenges with his business sense and by surrounding himself with the best and brightest

(From Seventh District Congressman Billy Long)

Throughout his presidency, President Trump has relied on his business sense and surrounded himself with the best and the brightest in their respective fields to help him executive his oath of office. He has an established track record of squashing inefficiency throughout the federal government.

His common sense approach has enabled him to streamline productivity and promote innovation, qualities that have proven vital as we rise to meet the challenges posed by COVID-19.

As we begin to transition back to life as we know it, our nation is better positioned than any to fight this invisible enemy thanks to the administration’s quick thinking and the resolve of the American people.

In the past few months, the president has eliminated barriers and inspired unprecedented collaborative efforts between government agencies and private industries to produce much-needed medical equipment, expand our testing capacity, and begin critical vaccine development at lightning speed.

The administration rolled out Operation Warp Speed, a national effort to accelerate the development of vaccines and treatments with the ultimate goal of having substantial quantities of a safe and effective vaccine for every American by January 2021.

This program stands to be one of the greatest scientific and humanitarian accomplishments and aims to deliver 300 million doses of a safe and effective vaccine by the end of this year. This full court press approach has made the United States the clear frontrunner in COVID-19 drug developments with more than 280 drugs in various stages of development, lapping China, a distant runner up, with fewer than 40 drugs in development. Already, the United States has 16 vaccine candidates in human trials.

We’ve also made great strides in expanding testing across the board. By the end of February, the U.S. had only performed about 8,000 tests between the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), Prevention labs, and state public health facilities.

As of this week, however, there are nearly 500,000 tests performed a day, and more than 23 million tests have been performed in all. This drastic increase in testing would not have been possible without the hard work of our major commercial labs and the president’s efforts to create a climate conducive to rapid innovation.

To be sure, this fight is not over, but Operation Warp Speed’s collaborative approach with drug manufactures is bearing fruit.

As it stands today, our nation is the world leader in COVID-19 drug and vaccine development. We need to continue to identify and eliminate red tape and operational bottlenecks to accelerate drug manufacturing so that Americans have access to these drugs.

We also have to think long term and work to develop policies that support drug research and development and the manufacturing infrastructure within the United States. Now that our nation has a strong hold on treatments, testing, and vaccine development, we are in a much better position as we begin reopening. I am honored to work with President Trump as we focus our efforts on reopening our economy, and I look forward to our great American comeback.

Are you on drugs or just drank too much Kool-Aid from Trump and his kids? He has not picked the best just as the voters of Missouri have chosen some of the most boot licking congressmen in history. Testing is done on a haphazard basis and worse yet is our health departments keep mum about hot spots to avoid. That is not what they are being paid for, identify, report and contain not hide and expose unknowing individuals to possible danger. You and your kind are or will go down in history of worthless welfare rats.

From the way most of his Trump supporting press releases read any thinking person would at least suspect both he and his young interns and staffers that probably actually write and post this stuff have been drinking the KOOKAID undiluted.

“ President Trump has relied on his business sense and surrounded himself with the best and the brightest in their respective fields to help him executive his oath of office.”

Possibly the best and brightest in their respective fields, but often placed in positions they have little experience in. There’s a difference.
