Newton County man makes initial appearance on sexual exploitation of a child, child pornography charges, detention hearing set

A Newton County man indicted by a federal grand jury for sexual exploitation of a child and receiving and distributing child pornography will remain in the Greene County Jail pending a detention hearing.

Nicholas Lane Stephens, 22, made his initial appearance in U. S. District Court in Springfield Tuesday.







According to the indictment, Stephens "used a minor to engage in sexually explicit conduct" and committed the child pornography offenses between December 1, 2019 and January 14.

The detention hearing is scheduled for 1:15 p.m. June 19.
