(From the Newton County Health Department)

Newton County recorded its second COVID-19 death, according to a news release issued this evening by the Newton County Health Department.

The death was reported on a day when the county topped the century mark in confirmed coronavirus cases, adding 14 for a total of 105.

Newton County's first death was reported April 20.

In an understatement the release noted, "Newton County is seeing a large increase in cases."

Many of the cases "can be traced back to a certain population," the release said, not giving any indication what that population is.

Many of the cases are concentrated in Neosho.

The county has recorded 62 cases in the past week.

The news release said 209 people are under quarantine and 73 people are in isolation, with five hospitalized.
