Joplin woman charged with hitting child, pointing loaded gun at her with safety off

The Jasper County Prosecuting Attorney's office filed two domestic assault charges against a Joplin woman who allegedly hit a child and pointed a loaded gun at her.

Andrea Lynn Wright is charged with a felony, domestic assault in the third degree, for punching the girl in the neck September 30 and a misdemeanor, domestic assault in the fourth degree, for pointing the loaded weapon at her sometime between September 1 and the end of the month.

From the probable cause statement:

Wright committed child abuse by punching the victim, a juvenile under 18 in the neck on both sides of her throat. Additionally, the victim said that within the last month Wright pointed a loaded pistol at her with the safety off.

Wright was intoxicated and admitted to consuming six shooter bottles of whiskey within two hours of contact. While on scene, Wright stopped listening to officers and tried to go back into the house after being told not to, which was obstructing our investigation.

The case was investigated by the Joplin Police Department.
