Joplin woman crashes into house, two cars, charged with DWI, meth, fentanyl possession

The Jasper County Prosecuting Attorney's office filed felony charges against a Joplin woman who crashed into two cars and a house Saturday.

Karissa LeAnn Barlett (DOB 1982) was charged with two counts of two felony counts of possession of a controlled substance (methamphetamine and fentanyl) three counts of property damage and a misdemeanor driving while intoxicated charge.

According to the probable cause statement, Barlett's driving caused more than $7,000 worth of damage. Barlet was driving while suspended and has a previous DWI conviction.

The felony drug charges are not the first against Barlett. Barlett was one of five people who were arrested March 14, 2018 after the Ozarks Drug Enforcement Team executed a search warrant at 1408 North Street in Joplin. She was charged with felony delivery of a controlled substance and illegal possession of a firearm.

On September 30, 2019, Barlett was sentenced to six years in prison on the drug charge and four years on the weapons charge with the sentences to run concurrently, but under a plea agreement with the Jasper County Prosecuting Attorney's office, Judge Gayle Crane suspended the sentence and placed Barlett on probation.
