Grandparents held without bond, allegedly left child in car with windows up in Neosho Walmart parking lot

A Neosho couple is being held without bond in the Newton County Jail after allegedly leaving their grandchild in a car with the windows up in the Walmart parking lot Saturday. Temperatures outside at the time were 100 degrees, according to the probable cause statement.

Billy Joe Powers (DOB 1969) and Staci Deanne Williams (DOB 1969) were charged with endangering the welfare of a child, a felony.

From the probable cause statement:

The reporting party called in stating that she had found a child left in a vehicle that was not running and had its windows rolled up. She advised that the child was not responding, so she checked the vehicle and discovered it was unlocked. Upon opening the door, the child did not respond to her, so she called 911. The temperature at this time was 100 degrees

The child was taken to Freeman Neosho as a precaution. The child and two other grandchildren who were not wearing shoes were turned over to the Children's Division, the probable cause statement said.

Powers' arraignment is scheduled for 1 p.m. Tuesday in Newton County Circuit Court.

Online court records do not indicate a time for Williams' arraignment.

How can anyone be so stupid and uncaring? I hope justice is served very appropriately in this case. Makes me wonder how their own children survived their very obvious lack of parenting skills… Some people do not deserve to be parents or grandparents! This is proof!!!

You know this wasn’t a case of “I forgot” they knew that baby was back there because they took the other two kids out. I don’t understand people. Were they trying to kill him? Were they high? What the hell is wrong with these mindless heartless idiots?

These people aren’t stupid or uncaring. These are deliberate acts of trying to kill these kids.
