(From Eighth District Congressman Jason Smith)Over the last several years, major metropolitan cities in the United States have seen a troubling trend when it comes to public safety. Left-wing prosecutors have been elected to office on the platform of not prosecuting crime, turning some cities into havens for violence, drugs, and criminal activity.
But as crime kicked up, liberal voters once willing to go along have finally reached their breaking point. In San Francisco, a tough-on-crime prosecutor was elected to replace a prosecutor who turned the city into something close to an open-air drug market.
In Seattle, a Republican prosecutor was elected and is actually holding criminals accountable. St. Louis has seen an improvement in crime since our attorney general, Andrew Bailey, sued to remove the woke prosecutor Kim Gardner from office.
But some cities have refused to get serious about public safety. One is a particular stain on our country – our nation’s capital, Washington, D.C. Washington has the 4th highest murder rate in the country, with 27.3 murders per 100,000 citizens. That rate is higher than Islamabad, Pakistan and nearly 18 times higher than Havana, Cuba. This year, there have been nearly 1,600 violent crimes and nearly 16,000 crimes reported in the city. Carjackings increased 547 percent between 2018 and 2023. On Capitol Hill, one of my committee’s members, Rep. Ron Estes from Kansas, employed a young 21-year-old intern who was murdered as he innocently walked home from work. A 3-year old – a 3-year old! – was murdered over the 4th of July. These statistics and examples of violence should shock every one of us to our core and demand something better.
Fortunately for us, President Trump is not afraid to take on the massive challenge of fixing Washington’s crime problem. On August 11, 2025, President Trump invoked the Home Rule Act of 1973 to take authority over the Washington Metropolitan Police Department. His bold action is the first step to solving the crime crisis that is negatively impacting D.C. residents and workers.

Somewhat unbelievably, rather than acknowledge the obvious reality that crime is a major problem in Washington, leaders of the Democrat Party have instead attempted to deny that action needs to be taken. House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries stated, “We…reject this unjustified power grab as illegitimate.” Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer stated, “No [expletive] way!” on if he and Senate Democrats would help President Trump in his ongoing efforts with legislation to protect D.C. residents and the safety of our nation’s capital.
Most Americans are appalled at the shocking violence they see coming out of too many of our country’s Democrat-run cities. Thankfully, we have a president working to benefit all Americans and willing to take on powerful special interests in favor of common sense. I’ll stand with President Trump to fight for public safety and accountability for the criminals who commit these heinous acts.

You sir have no class. Spread your propaganda elsewhere. You're supposed to represent everyone in your district not just red hat wearers. Look to those who came before you to see class and how a representative should behave. Randy is right
Jason, you can start by being accountable by doing the right thing and hold your supreme leader accountable for all his treasonous actions and violence against women......but we all know you don't have the moral backbone or courage to do anything that might stand in the way of your political ambitions. Besides, look what bending over and repeatedly voicing complete and total fealty to the master got all the local missouri politicians.
There are problems with prosecutors in your district, sir, and the record shows it. Maybe you should aim a little closer to home where you could have some effect. Try asking around, you’ll get an earful to be sure.
Aren't you the same two people who are always feeling sorry for Illegals that break our laws by coming to our country illegally and won't realize that is a crime against the US? No, other country has completely open borders in the sense that anyone can enter and exit without any restrictions, and once that occurs they are arrested, fined, and deported back to their country of origin. Why should America be any different?
Some crimes are equal but some crimes are more equal.
Also IOKIYAR!
Dear 844. Who picked your fruit and vegetables? Who's going to do it now? Sure as hell not you or practically any naturalized citizen for that matter that can earn more. Give thanks to your master next time you see your grocery bill.
8:44 displays a complete lack of knowledge regarding the borders of other countries
7:58 you are foolish go try this in China,
8:44 spot on theses libs are a joke, they don’t even know the difference between a male and a female…..
344, the "Maga Professor" still clinically obsessed with genders, and in all likelihood, confused about his own, offering more ignorance and fear over people not like himself. A true example of the maga movement of hate, division, and discrimination.
8:01 I believe your party is obsessed with trying to normalize insanity, and no I will never let this go, it’s something so simple and your party can’t understand it….
Dear maga professor, And I believe your cult is hellbent on hate, ignorance, and a total disregard for justice, and for anyone who doesn't look or think like you. You and your master remind us all of this every day.
Dear Liberal professor, I believe your cult is hellbent on hate, disguised as love, ignorance, disguised as tolerance and a total disregard for justice, illegal aliens, etc. and for anyone who doesn't have weird hair or think men can get pregnant and menstruates, You and your circus remind us all of this every day.
Dear Professor Plagiarism, Just like your attempt at copying because you can't come up with anything original, you confess complete fealty to the cult and it's lack of ingenuity, creativity, and intense fear of anyone not white. You seek to follow your masters beckoning to destroy the constitution and essentially, stealing the future of your offspring by denying basic human rights and a total disregard for the environmental destruction your master so ignorantly engages in.
