Background checks for all gun purchases tops Newman's legislative agenda

In her latest report, Rep. Stacey Newman, D-St. Louis, outlines her legislative agenda for 2013, topped by a bill to close the gun show loophole.

Besides the start of the New Year, January 2nd also indicates that there is only 7 days until the start of the 2013 MO Legislative Session.  The countdown and the packing has begun.

I’m ready to get back to business.
I will be spearheading the offense, leading the House Progressive Caucus via  Minority Leadership  & working hand-in-hand with Progress Missouri (check them out).  You can count on me, once again, to be a LOUD voice in committee and on the floor, defending the values of our district.
 My Major 2013 Legislation:
Closing the Gunshow Loophole  = requiring background checks for ALL gun purchases
Early Voting = allowing Missourians to vote with no excuse in advance of Election Day (as do 32 other states)
Compassionate Assistance for Rape Emergencies Act = previously sponsored by Rep. Jeannette Oxford
Equal Pay  = working closely again with the Attorney General’s office
As of today, I’ve been confirmed as the senior minority member on the Appropriations Committee – General Adminstration (serving my 4th year).  Additional committee assignments have yet to be confirmed by House Speaker Tim Jones.

Her legislative priorities would appear to be no-brainers and yet I'm sure those with a vested interest in the status quo will invariably rise up against her.
