Globe a bit late on change of venue for Rowan Ford's stepfather

A Barry County judge ordered a change of venue for accused child killer David Wesley Spears Tuesday afternoon, but despite the fact that nine-year-old Rowan Ford's murder has been one of the biggest stories in this area, not one word on the judge's decision was in the print edition of today's Joplin Globe.

The information was finally placed on the Globe's website shortly before 10 a.m. today.

It was not necessary to send a reporter to Monett for this story. All the Globe had to do was have a reporter make a simple phone call, or even check case.net, which had the information posted last Tuesday afternoon.

I would guess that some Globe readers, having seen the coverage on the local television stations Tuesday afternoon, were probably expecting the complete story in the area's newspaper of record.

Of course, they were disappointed.
