When Archie got his yes man made Presiding Commissioner, you declared him the best politician in Jasper County. Now that his chosen candidate was routed and he himself ran 20% to 25% behind Wells the only other unchallenged incumbent in the county, are you ready to declare him the big loser he really is?

Not at all. Archie made a miscalculation in this case, but when you are elected to sheriff as an independent and anoint a candidate who knocks off an incumbent presiding commissioner, you have a lot going for you. The major difference this time, is Putnam was nowhere near as well-liked as Bartosh and Surface was an unpopular incumbent even before the DWI. Factor Jim Honey's popularity into the equation and there was no way Putnam was going to win. Archie made a misstep but his track record is still pretty good.

You fail to see that Archie has lost ground himself. Look at his total and compare it to Wells. Almost 1 out of 4 Republicans that voted in Jasper County for Wells left Archie out! He is a big loser, he personally, you just can't see the fact.

Let me point out four things:

1. Archie Dunn is in law enforcement and nearly anyone who is in law enforcement is going to offend someone by how they handle the job.

2. Jeannie Wells is not in a position to make enemies. She does not arrest people. She does not make property assessments. She does not make the kinds of decisions a county commissioner makes.

3. No one ran against Archie Dunn.

4. You are deluding yourself if you think Archie Dunn has lost any power.

Randy if you do some research, you will find that the Sheriff leads the ticket in many counties, so you are just wrong when you try to blame this loss of support on the fact that he is in law enforcement. Judges sometimes do lose votes over time but sheriffs seldom do, I have no idea where you got that idea. The fact is that the difference between Wells and Dunn totals may be the widest in history in this county between unchallenged primary incumbents. Dunn may still be grasping power, but he has unquestionably lost support, except maybe yours of course
