Sook: Nexstar is outperforming the industry

Nexstar Broadcasting CEO Perry Sook told investors moments ago that his company is "outperforming the industry," with its "leading local news over the air and on-line and developing new revenue streams."

Sook's comments were made during a news conference which is still being held. The conference was scheduled to discuss the release of Nexstar Broadcasting's record second quarter results.

The outlook continues to be bright, Sook said, due in no small part to this year's political races. National political spending is heading toward record levels, Sook said, and since many of Nexstar's stations are located in battlefield states such as Missouri, Pennsylvania, and Indiana, which also have strong local races, things should continue to get better.

The company is also experiencing success with its online efforts and with building its retransmission fees, Sook said. Online revenue is expected to grow 100 percent in 2008, and Sook said a major deal is in the works that will greatly add to retransmission revenues.

Another key, Sook added, is the company's "disciplined expense management."

Nexstar Broadcasting owns KSNF in Joplin and KSFX in Springfield and is de facto owner of KODE in Joplin and KOLR in Springfield.
