Missouri House Speaker Tim Jones offered the following statement in reaction to the governor’s vetoes of several bills designed to provide much needed tax relief to Missouri families and businesses which would have spurred the economy and lead to immediate job creation:
“I am disappointed but not surprised that the governor has once again stood in the way of providing tax relief to Missouri families and businesses.
By vetoing these bills he has reemphasized the fact that the focus of his tax and spend administration is on growing the size of government rather than growing our economy. Missourians should be outraged that he has utilized his executive authority to expand the reach of the continued overreach of the revenue department, and even more outraged that he has now stood in the way of the legislature’s efforts to clarify and rein in the over-taxation policies he has put in place. We will look to build on our historic Veto Session from last year by overriding even more of his vetoes this September which will positively benefit the lives of Missourians.”
