The amount of money going to the chamber of corruption is obscene.

The Chamber has a nice little slush fund.

Prospect/Cosultant hosting & travel $15,000 -- Who are these prospects and/or consultants? The same kinds of consultants as the outfit from Michigan that produced a nonsense feasibility report for baseball? Is this stuff going out for bid? Does the Chamber have any oversight anymore? Or is it all just blindly approved and funded?
Retail Attraction $22,000 --- What? How?
Data Systems and equipment support $20,000
???????? What does any of this even mean???? Probably going to need a little bit more information, Rob. Funding this is nothing short of irresponsible. Come on council.

I would not support any more City funding until Rob is replaced and major changes made to the operation.

On the chamber's website there's an area called "Member Benefits" and it's incredibly misleading because most of the things that are listed are not services that come with the membership fee. It will cost you $700 or more to set up a booth at the Business Expo. To host a first friday coffee or Business after hours is a $1,500 fee. To attend the annual banquet is $50 per ticket and the Good Morning Joplin thing is $10 to attend and I can't even image what the price tag is to host the thing. The point is, the chamber is raking in millions each year from businesses and taxpayers and for what? So that they can make shade deals with Texas crooks and create false reports in order to trick a baseball team into coming here? Why do people pay for any of this? And why does council blindly support it? The best I've heard lately is that the 2017 Business Expo, which will be held in January is going to be at Downstream Casino. That's right the JOPLIN Business Expo will be held on tribal land in Oklahoma. Way to keep it local, guys. I wonder how big the check from Downstream to the chamber is every year? We have managed to get rid of Rohr and survive David Wallce. Time to gut the chamber and make some much needed changes in the area of "economic development" here in Joplin.

Very perceptive 12:02 - Thanks for the info. Glad someone is paying attention to the details of the Chamber's pricing structure! Ironic venue for the Expo ...

Ask to see a financial report on the Expo event and you will be even more disgusted with the Chamber's pricing of their services. The Expo is not a "service to its members", it is a fundraiser for all of their other programs/staff that have nothing to do with its core mission.

If they are doing all of this fundraising through memberships and events, then why are they also getting so many taxpayer dollars?
Randy, is there a way to get a breakdown of the chamber's financials?
