City of Joplin receives $156,000 bill for state audit

The City of Joplin has received the invoice for audit services conducted by the Missouri State Auditor’s office for the amount of $156,862.09. Included in the amount is approximately 3,431 hours of work by audit staff for a total of $114,646; 312 hours worked by the audit manager for $16,460; and $19,687 of travel expense. Other personnel service areas included work by Director of Audits and Director of Quality Control totaling 89 hours for an amount of $5,583. The preparation of the audit report required 15 hours for $486.

The State Auditor was petitioned under Section 29.230,RSMo to audit the City, and presented their findings in August 2015. The report can be found on the City’s website, http://joplinmo.org/documentcenter/view/4516 .

City staff has addressed many of the items noted in the audit, and is now reviewing various policies and procedures that were discussed in their findings.
