PSC sets intervention deadline in Empire District Electric merger

The Empire District Electric Company (Empire), Liberty Utilities (Central) Co. (LU Central) and Liberty Sub Corp. have filed a joint application with the Missouri Public Service Commission asking the Commission to approve a transaction in which LU Central would acquire all of the common stock of Empire.

According to the application, LU Central is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Liberty Utilities Co. and is an indirect subsidiary of Algonquin Power & Utilities Corp.

Applications to intervene and participate in this case must be filed no later than April 14, 2016, with the Secretary of the Missouri Public Service Commission, P.O. Box 360, Jefferson City, Missouri 65102, or by using the Commission’s Electronic Filing and Information System (EFIS) at www.psc.mo.gov .

The Office of the Public Counsel is a separate state agency that represents the general public in matters before the Commission.

The Empire District Electric Company serves approximately 150,300 electric customers and approximately 4,500 water customers in Missouri. Through wholly-owned subsidiaries, Empire also provides natural gas utility service (to approximately 43,000 customers) and interexchange and private line telecommunications services in Missouri.
