Newton County files kidnapping, rape, sodomy charges against North Middle School teacher

The Newton County Prosecuting Attorney's office filed three new felony charges today against North Middle School reading teacher Amanda Schweitzer.

Schweitzer, who is being held in the Jasper County Jail in lieu of $50,000 bond (including $10,000 cash bond)  statutory rape charge, is charged with kidnapping, statutory rape, and statutory sodomy.

The probable cause affidavit written by Sgt. Andrew Blair of the Joplin Police Department indicates the 37-year-old teacher had sex with a 13-year-old boy at the Water's Edge Camp Ground in Newton County:

On 3-20-2017 at 6614 Old Highway 71, Joplin, Newton County, Missouri, Amanda Schweitzer committed the crimes of statutory rape in the first degree, statutory sodomy in the first degree and child kidnapping.

Thirty-seven-year old Schweitzer drove the 13-year-old victim from (his) residence to the Water's Edge Camp Ground. Schweitzer was not  a relative of (the boy's) and did not have the parent permission to remove the child.

The affidavit says that Schweitzer performed oral sex on the boy and then had sexual intercourse with him.

Evidence collected from Schweitzer's residence confirmed (the boy's) account of the event.

The investigation that had led to the multiple felony charges against Schweitzer started with a complaint that Schweitzer had sent nude photos of herself to three of her students.

In the Jasper County statutory rape case, Schweitzer allegedly had sex with the 13-year-old boy on March 29 at her Joplin home.

She pleaded not guilty to that charge during a video arraignment Thursday in Jasper County Circuit Court.
