DOR provides tax extension to those affected by flooding

(From the Missouri Department of Revenue)

The Missouri Department of Revenue (DOR) has previously provided a number of extensions of deadlines to assist Missouri individuals and businesses affected by the recent flooding. The DOR announced today it will grant the same deadline extensions as recently announced by the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) to further assist those impacted.

Specifically, the IRS has postponed certain deadlines for taxpayers who reside or have a business in the disaster area to Aug. 31, 2017. The extension applies to deadlines falling on or after April 28, 2017, and before Aug. 31, 2017. For information about the tax extension, see the IRS news release here:

Taxpayers requesting an extension should note the following on their returns when filed: “May 2017 flood extension.” If an affected taxpayer receives a late filing or late payment penalty notice from DOR that has an original or extended filing, payment or deposit due date that falls within the postponement period, the taxpayer should call the phone number on the notice to have the DOR abate the penalty.

Individuals who reside or have a business in the following counties may qualify for relief: Bollinger, Butler, Carter, Douglas, Dunklin, Franklin, Gasconade, Howell, Jasper, Jefferson, Madison, Maries, McDonald, Newton, Oregon, Osage, Ozark, Pemiscot, Phelps, Pulaski, Reynolds, Ripley, Shannon, St. Louis, Stone, Taney, and Texas.
