Billy Long: Internet companies biased against conservative voices

(From Seventh District Congressman Billy Long)

Last year, the Energy and Commerce Committee invited both Mark Zuckerberg, CEO and founder of Facebook, and Jack Dorsey, CEO and co-founder of Twitter, to come and testify before the committee about transparency and accountability.

My focus during these hearings was on the apparent bias against conservative content and news outlets on each platform.

As I asked questions concerning this issue, I was promised time and again that each company would take the necessary steps to end this unfortunate practice. However, since the hearings nothing has changed. In many cases things have only gotten worse.

Recently, Twitter was under scrutiny for removing the pro-life movie, ‘Unplanned,’ from its platform. After outrage broke out on Twitter, it eventually reinstated the account claiming that it did not in fact violate any Twitter rules. Once being reinstated the account mysteriously went from more than 150,000 followers to a little over 25,000 with no explanation as to why.

Sadly, Facebook isn’t much better. Last year, Facebook censored paid ads for a pro-life movie. Alveda King, the niece of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., protested, along with many others, saying that this was a discriminatory act. Similar to Twitter, after backlash Facebook reinstated the ads and said that they were accidentally removed. That is very hard for me to believe.

Other big tech companies, such as Google, have also been under fire for what many see as their bias against conservatives. A recent example of this was last year when search results on Google listed the ideology of the California Republican Party as Nazism. After apologizing, however, Google jumped from the frying pan into the fire over a top search result that labeled a picture of a Republican state Senator from North Carolina as a bigot.

As this problem gets worse, the American people are losing faith in big tech companies. A recent Pew Research poll found that 72 percent of the public believes that social media platforms censor content that they believe is objectionable. 85 percent of Republicans think this is a common practice and more than 60 percent of Democrats believe so.

I’ve never argued against policies that remove posts deemed unsafe for communities. However, it is clear that there have been a number of instances where that’s not the case. It’s unethical for big tech companies to decide what political content can and can’t be heard. All viewpoints deserve exposure.

Conservatives deserve the bias as they show little tolerance towards the under served by our communities. Laws against women to control their own right to birth control, laws making abortion punishable by death(Texas trying), bias towards any race other than whites and lack of ministers to get their congregation to conserve the earth versus exploit it to destruction. The conservatives are still living in the dark ages of male dominance over women and races is outdated and archaic. It is time for less greed and more giving and less war and allowing other countries and people to decide their own path. Time to stop destroying the earth and preserve what nature and their "God" gave humans and enhance it versus taking it to the end.

What are you talking about, 448? Tell us when conservatives have ever tried to prevent women from having birth control, show us proof that conservatives have a vendetta against women. While you are looking those things up, let's talk about how the left has crushed any woman who has come up against a male political figure on the left. The Clintons defined this art. The women who accused Bill had ample evidence to prove that he is a manipulator and a rapist. Yet the women were villianized. Jump to the Kavanaugh fiasco and the left them weaponizes a woman to attack without proof. Then they discard after their use for her is over. Move out 9f the political arena and look at the accused in the Me Too movement, all left leaning figures. Yet the media and idiots like yourself continue to portray those on the right as the ones that hate women. Open your eyes.

A heaping steaming load of butwhataboutism dropped by @7:29am.

I wonder if 7:29 am got to church a little faster without the extra 10 pounds.

Explain, 1253. Waiting to hear what conservatives do to harm women, while I listed a small sampling of what the left has done.

Aside from being a slimy, useless human being, Billy is showing how out of touch he is, as well as being a terrible liar.
