Bond reduction motion: Former Joplin city employee facing statutory sodomy charges is not a flight risk

The attorney for a former Joplin city employee facing statutory sodomy charges says his client's $50,000 cash only bond should be reduced.

In a motion filed in Jasper County Circuit Court, the public defender for Jerad Cyler Adams, 35, Carthage, says his client is not a flight risk.

"Defendant was employed by the City of Joplin, Missouri, prior to his arrest and would be able to acquire other employment pending his release."

The motion noted Adams' "close ties to the community," saying he has "multiple friends and family members in the area."

As a further enticement for the reduced bond, the motion promises Adams "will not have any contact with anyone under the age of 18 and will oblige by any and all requirements of the court."

Adams has been in the Jasper County Jail since June after being arrested on two counts of statutory sodomy.

The charges involve sexual activity with an underage girl, according to the probable cause statement.

The bond reduction hearing is scheduled for 1 p.m. Monday, April 15, before Judge David Mouton.
