Joplin man accused of Bites and Pipes double murders arraigned, pleads not guilty

The Joplin man charged with two counts of first degree murder in connection with two shooting deaths Sunday at the Bites and Pipes hookah lounge at 110 N. Range Line, pleaded not guilty today during a video arraignment today in Jasper County Circuit Court.

The probable cause statement indicates an argument over an iPad led to Raymund P. Badios, 20, shooting and killing two men:

Badios was inside Bites and Pipes when a fight broke out over possession of an iPad used to play music. Badios is initially part of this physical fight then removes himself from the fight.

Badios is observed pulling a Glock 43 handgun from his friend's pocket. Badios cycles the handgun to make sure is loaded and backs up toward the exit that is unblocked. He then moves forward and raises the handgun to Toua Ye Lee's head. Lee is not actively engaged in the fight at the time and is looking away from Badios.

Badios fires the handgun one time, striking Lee in the head, killing him.

Badios then walks forward and and fires the handgun one time at Kennedy Lor, with the bullet grazing Lor's cheek and penetrating his left ear.

Badios continues walking forward and shoots Chong Ka Xiong multiple times, including at least once in the head, killing him.

Several subjects detained Badios as he attempted to flee the business and held him in the parking lot until police arrived.

Detective Dustin Holt conducted an interview with Badios at the Joplin Police Department. Badios admitted to pulling the handgun from his friend's pocket and shooting three people. Badios stated he cycled the handgun to ensure it was loaded.

In addition to the two counts of first degree murder, Badios is charged with three counts of armed criminal action and one count of assault. His next hearing is scheduled for 9 a.m. July 1.
