Riots in Joplin this weekend? Joplin Police Department addresses social media postings

Rumors that rioters are coming to Joplin, including some that say ATF (or FBI or some other governmental agency) has contacted local law enforcement saying they are coming, have no basis in fact, according to a news release issued moments ago by the Joplin Police Department:

The Joplin Police Department has received numerous calls with concerns regarding planned riots in the City of Joplin this weekend. 

The Joplin Police Department has been actively monitoring the situation and we are working closely with other law enforcement agencies in the region. As of this point in time, we have not received any CREDIBLE information that rioting is being planned. 

Our agency has been working closely with local organizations, businesses and community leaders on planned events. These events have been planned to be peaceful in nature. 

The Joplin Police Department prides itself on providing a safe environment for its citizens, businesses and visitors to the city.
