Phillips, who earlier had been described as "a person of interest" in connection with the March 2 stabbing death of Seth R. Langford, 36, Carl Junction.
The Jasper County Prosecuting Attorney's office charged Phillips with robbery, armed criminal action, unlawful possession of a firearm, tampering with a motor vehicle and unlawful use of a weapon.
Scott Burleson, 30, Seneca, is charged with second degree murder, robbery and two counts of armed criminal action. The probable cause statement in Burleson's case said a witness saw him stab Langford three times. Langford was taken to Freeman West Hospital where he later died.
Burleson is still at large and is considered to be armed and dangerous.
Phillips' alleged role in the events of March 2 was detailed in the probable cause statement:
On March 2nd, 2024 Jasper County Sheriff's Office deputies responded to an address on State Line
Ave. in the County of Jasper and State ofMissouri, where a stabbing had occurred.
VI (Victim 1) was taken to
the hospital where emergency surgery was conducted. While working the scene of the crime, fresh
blood was located in the trailer home in the hallway that would be consistent with a stabbing. Paul
was seen on video footage leaving in his silver 2006 Chevrolet Silverado truck with two other occupants including suspect #2 (Burleson).
During the investigation, Paul was identified on security footage at the incident location and named
by witnesses as being there with suspect #2. It was also reported that Paul was in possession of a
firearm and had pointed it at witnesses and victims.
On March 6, 2024 a report of a white Mercades that Paul had been suspected of driving had fled
from law enforcement. lt was recovered at an address on Malang Rd. in Jasper County, MO. The
vehicle was found to be stolen out of Newton County, MO, but was unoccupied.
A firearm was
found in the driver side door of the stolen Mercedes. Paul was located in a nearby residence. After
Miranda rights (also known as Constitutional rights) were read, Paul admitted to being at the house
when VI was stabbed multiple times ultimately causing his death a day later.
While VI was stabbed, Paul admitted to pulling out a pistol and waving it around after victim #1 was stabbed. Suspect #2
then robbed the residence owner of $7 in cash and an ounce of marijuana.
Paul admitted to fleeing from law enforcement in the stolen Mercedes, admitted the found pistol in
the Mercedes was the one in his possession during the stabbing of VI. Paul stated that he held the
pistol while suspect #2 threatened Witness 1 into giving him 1ounce of marijuana and $7 in cash. He
further stated that he collected the cell phones of the involved individuals and burnt them in
Oklahoma.
Phillips' capture was addressed in a news release this afternoon from the Jasper County Sheriff's Office:
On 3-6-2024 at approximately 12:15 PM, Jasper County Deputies were notified that Cherokee County Kansas Deputies and Joplin Police Officers were in pursuit with a vehicle that was possibly associated with the stabbing homicide that occurred on 3-2-2024.

The pursuit terminated and the suspect vehicle was located abandoned behind a trailer near 7th and Malang.
Jasper County Deputies along with the assistance from surrounding agencies set up a perimeter around the trailer where the vehicle was located. The trailer was cleared with no one found inside.
A short time later Jasper County Deputies located a subject at a residence nearby that residence. The male subject was identified as Paul D. Phillips Jr, 36 of Seneca. Phillips was the person of interest in the recent stabbing investigation.
Phillips was arrested and transported to the Jasper County Detention Center in Carthage, Mo. Charges have been submitted to the Jasper County Prosecutors Office on Phillips for Second Degree Robbery, unlawful use of a weapon and armed criminal action. The case is still being investigated and more charges may arise from the investigation.
Jasper County Sheriff’s Office is still looking for Scott B Burleson, 30 of Wyandotte Oklahoma. The police department says Cpl. Ben Cooper and Officer Jake Reed were fatally shot this past Tuesday while responding to an incident involving an armed suspect.
A third Joplin officer, 53-year-old Rick Hirshey, was shot and taken to the hospital.
Stop contributing to the notion that all Cops are Bad - they deserve the Respect and Honor of the Jobs they go and do everyday.

538pm and 758am - feels like it's been longer than 1 year since that incident happened. It was awful, and still is. So, was the gunman some sort of expert marksman or sniper or something? How did he shoot and kill two officers and seriously wound a third before finally being outnumbered by police firepower?

7:03 PM - - Does it matter he Killed 2-Policeman and Wounded a Third - - These 2-Policeman had Families - They started their Day to do their Job and then go home - just like everyone that goes to work - Only they did not get to go home at the end of their shift.
Their Families will never see them, talk to them - there Children will be without Fathers.
