McLean to be sentenced on child endangerment charge

The final sentencing hearing for Brandie McLean, 29, Joplin, is scheduled for 9 a.m. today in Jasper County Circuit Court. Ms. McLean has pleaded guilty to endangering the welfare of her children.
Ms. McLean was sentenced to seven years in prison earlier this year on forgery charges, but the sentence was suspended and she was placed on supervised probation for five years.
Her children were taken from her custody after neighbors spotted her two-year-old on the roof and called the police. Ms. McLean was living in Webb City at the time. Her eight-year-old son, Braxton Wooden, was placed in a foster home with Mark and Treva Gordon, Alba. On June 2, 2005, Braxton was shot to death by the Gordons' son, Ethan.
Ms. McLean filed a lawsuit against the Gordons and the Missouri Division of Family Services and recently settled with the Gordons (the settlement was first revealed in the April 20 Turner Report with the details first given in the Joplin Globe last week).
