Globe: All information on public administrator's wards erased from county computers

It appears the controversy surrounding Rita Hunter's lone term as Jasper County public administrator is going to continue long after the conclusion of her term.

An article in today's Joplin Globe indicates new Public Administrator Angie Casavecchia Ashens found all records on wards has been erased from county computers. Of course, Mrs. Hunter's handling of those wards is the subject of numerous lawsuits continuing in Jasper County Circuit Court:

Casavecchia, who defeated Hunter in last year’s Republican primary election, said Hunter came to her house on New Year’s morning, turned over an office pager and told her that paper files on county wards were at Podleski’s office.

She said she did not learn that no records were available — on computer files or otherwise — until Friday.

Casavecchia said it has put her in a position of not being able to take care of county wards because she has no way of knowing who they are, where they are or what their needs are.

“I got a call this morning from a facility in Salisbury about a ward who wants to refuse a chemotherapy treatment, and I don’t have any information, medical records or anything on that person,” she said.

Sounds like it might be about time for a grand jury to be impaneled.

Anyone who refered to Hunter as a "class act" needs to look at her actions and re-think their opinion. To impair the new office in such a manner is criminal, to say the least. The grand jury would be an excellent idea.

It appears that Ms. Hunter has confirmed all doubts about her service as Public Administrator. Because of her pettiness and, perhaps, fear of being "discovered", it is the unfortunate wards who suffer.

And so the paper copies of the files have been removed from the office and placed in the office of an attorney who is involved in a law suit involving the wards and the digital copies have been deleted from the computer. How convenient! The time and expense of re-entering the data would be monumental. Well, so much for a "smooth transition." Such unprofessional and criminal-like conduct makes a strong case for a grand jury.

Why dosen't the Missouri Highway Patrol investigate this? What a hoot.

Rita needs to be charged for "Elder Abuse". If it were not for her husband's contacts, she probably would be.

And what contacts could her husband possibly have? He is a drunk old has been married to the wicked witch of the west.
This is one tangled mess and Rita has been dispicable but Dean D has been far worse in letting it go so far. He should be put out of office for the layers of "good ole boy" he is involved in. His assistant John is married to Gayle Crane from Sotta and Crane which is where Bob Briggs worked back when this all began, now Gayle is a Judge and the prosecuter employs her husband...does any of this seem ODD and conflicted?
Small town politics which get our county laughed at. Most of us are better people than that, we deserve better county officals.
