Joplin Globe to try something new

A new type of journalism may be coming to Joplin.
The Joplin Globe placed an ad Friday with journalismjobs.com, seeking "energetic, curious reporters."
The ad reads:

The Joplin Globe, a highly decorated daily nestled in the gateway to the beautiful Ozarks, is looking for energetic reporters who know how to cover a beat and love the chase. This is a demanding but highly rewarding job for true journalists who see the mission and want to broaden their careers by working with a highly experienced team of reporters and editors. Please submit your resume and three best news clips to esimpson@joplinglobe.com, or The Joplin Globe, Attn: Editor Edgar Simpson, 117 E. Fourth St., Joplin, Mo., 64801.

The Globe is good at attracting "energetic, curious reporters" and then promptly driving them away.

This is what the ad should say:

The Joplin Globe, a daily that plays favorites with reporters nestled in a community that pays pitiful wages, is looking for energetic reporters who know how to cover a beat and love to work for next to nothing. This is a demanding but minimally rewarding job for amateur or inexperienced journalists who kiss butt and want to broaden their careers by working with an aging team of reporters and editors. Please submit your resume and three best news clips to esimpson@joplinglobe.com, or The Joplin Globe, Attn: Editor Edgar Simpson, 117 E. Fourth St., Joplin, Mo., 64801.

Did the Globe ever find the "dynamic newshound" it was looking for?

You haven't lived until you've ...

--listened to Wally Kennedy tell the world how hard he works.

--watched Ed Simpson try to talk his way out of a situation.

--had Michael Stair tell you one way to approach a story and and then, when you hand in copy, tell you he never wanted it that way.

--had Carol Stark stab you in the back.

Got to call a spade a spade, but it's time for the powers that be in Birmingham to bring in some new blood
