Hunter continues to soak up lobbyists' gifts


Rep. Steve Hunter, R-Joplin, is cruising in his effort to maintain his annual status as the Joplin-area legislator who receives the most lobbyists' gifts.
The operative word in that sentence was cruising.
The lobbyist disclosure form for April, posted today on the Missouri Ethics Commission website, indicates Hunter and his wife, Jasper County Public Administrator Rita Hunter, received a cruise and "meals, food, and beverage" April 28 from Joplin lobbyist and former state representative Gary Burton, on behalf of his client, Missouri Cable Telecommunications Association. According to the documents, Burton paid $21 for each cruise and $33.83 for each meal.
The Burton gifts were among a total of $509.93 received by Hunter in April, increasing his total to $2,268.44 for 2007.
He also received $211.28 in meals, food, and beverage on April 23 from Robert W. Wilson, representing the Missouri Motor Carriers Association.

Ron Richard, R-Joplin- The Speaker of the House candidate received $113.28 worth of gifts in April, led by a $42.13 meal from Burton, who this time was representing the Missouri Council of School Administrators, according to the disclosure form. Richard's 2007 total is $639.32.

Ed Emery, R-Lamar- Emery's total for April was $98.88, led by $48.93 from Kansas City Power & Light lobbyist David Christian for what is described as an "energy efficiency meeting in the office." Emery has received $521.90 in gifts this year.


Marilyn Ruestman, R-Joplin
- Ms. Ruestman had $81.81 in April, led by $31.25 for a meal from Kyna Iman, Missouri Southern State University lobbyist, increasing her total to $501.32 for the first four months.

Bryan Stevenson, R-Webb City- Stevenson's total for 2007 is $478.34, including $132.76 in April. He received two meals totaling $46.25 from Ms. Iman, representing MSSU and a $39.26 meal from Burton, lobbying for the Missouri Council of School Administrators.

Kevin Wilson, R-Neosho- Wilson is up to $335.13 for the year, including $97.70 in April, led by two meals totaling $46.20 from Larry Cole, AT&T lobbyist, and a $31.25 meal from Ms. Iman, representing MSSU.
