Child rapists should receive the ultimate penalty, Gov. Matt Blunt told members of the Senate and House of Representatives tonight during the State of the State message.
"I urge you to make the rape of a Missouri child punishable by death," the governor said.
That was only one of the measures Blunt proposed to combat crime. He asked the legislature to require sex offenders to add their e-mail addresses to the sex offenders' registry.
He also asked for $2.8 million for two programs to combat meth.
Blunt showed signs that he will continue to make illegal immigration one of his chief issues during his reelection campaign.
"Illegal immigration makes a travesty of the rule of law," Blunt said, adding that illegals are taking the job of carpenters and electricians. "Missourians welcome legal immigrants.
"I renew my endorsement of English as the official language," Blunt said, then began a laundry list of suggestions designed to trim illegal immigration in the state. (I will provide a link to the entire address when it is available.)
While we open our hearts to those who are here legally, we must have a firm hand for those who break our laws. Open borders and amnesty are unacceptable."
