Former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney has taken the early lead in the Michigan primary with 37 percent to 31 percent for Sen. John McCain and 16 percent for former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee.
The state is considered to be a must-win for Romney, whose only win thus far was in the lightly-contested Wyoming caucuses.
McCain overcame Romney's early lead in New Hampshire, while Huckabee performed the same feat in the Iowa caucuses.
With nine percent of the vote in, Ron Paul is fourth with six percent, Fred Thompson fifth with four percent and Rudy Giuliani sixth with three percent. Some polls are already closed.
Fox News Channel is indicating it will be able to call the primary at the top of the hour.
