Dears friends and volunteers,
Unfortunately, we did not receive our temporary certificate of occupancy today as we had hoped. During the state's elevator inspection, it was discovered that we need to build fire-rated ceilings in our elevator equipment rooms to separate the elevator mechanical rooms from any non-elevator equipment such as conduit, piping or duct work. This is a three- to five-day project. We are also still working on some programming modifications with our HVAC system. As excited as we are about moving our teachers and staff into the new building, it is more important to us that the building be safe and ready for our staff and volunteers. We are canceling the move for the rest of the week to give our contractors time to correct these issues. At this time, this does not affect the opening day of Aug. 25 for the school.
We can't thank you enough for your willingness to volunteer, and we apologize for any inconvenience. We will make a decision regarding next week's scheduled move dates at the end of this week. If you are available next week, we would love to have your help.

Yeah, while Dr. All American Hero and his head cheerleader are dragging their pompoms around, they are wasting time needed to put schools together at the old campuses. For the sake of my children, please stop worrying about your new school and just get on with it. PLEASE. Or me and mine are headed to TJ. I bet CJ Huff is the best thing that has ever happened to that school.
Shouldn't someone have known about the fire-rated ceilings requirement in the elevator equipment room before now or is this another cost cutting measure (like the asbestos abatement) implemented by Mike Johnson? It certainly makes one wonder what other short cuts were taken, hoping the inspectors wouldn't notice.
Trust me, TJ, College Heights are getting plenty of students from R-8, you should have seen the amount of Joplin kids testing to get a scholorship to TJ! Off the charts!
Please, don't worry yourself about it, Huff. Our kids don't need an education. We are willing to wait so you can use your stupid ribbon and have a media show. They can hold off. I'm sure the scores will support that Joplin is all about learning and we can relax for a few months while you and the Keystone Kops figure this out.
Three to five days. Think about it. If they take Sunday off, which they should, that means it could be Monday or Tuesday before that is ready for inspection again. Will the HVAC be ready? Probably not. What about the other issues? So really, it is Wednesday next week at the EARLIEST before people can start moving in. When is open house--Thursday? And the first day--Monday of the following week? I feel so sorry for the teachers and staff. This is the worst possible way to start their year, on top of no significant raises and way too few supplies.
Again, why is this bungling, arrogant fool still employed? Because his board is just more of the same cloth.
Aren't we in the middle of a procedural audit? I bet they are really impressed by this smooth performance.
Whatever happened concerning the use of alloy wiring instead of the code mandated copper wiring issue? This would seem to be to big of an issue to sweep under the rug.
