R-8 Board has not OKed C. J. Huff's outside activities

Every one of C. J. Huff's speaking engagements (of the ones the Turner Report has found) during the 2014 calendar year has taken place during the regular workweek.

The same holds true of trips made by Huff and the Joplin R-8 School District's executive director of communications and community relations Kim Vann to expand Bright Futures USA, a non-profit organization which is supposedly not connected with the school district, but which operates out of the Administration Building at 32nd and Duquesne.

For the first time board members are checking to see if these trips are being taken on vacation or off time or if they are being done at times when Huff and Vann are supposed to be working for the taxpayers.

Information has been provided to state auditors that claims Vann has created two calendars, one for the public and the media and the other to help Huff keep track of his various outside speaking engagements and activities that are taking place to aid the expansion of Bright Futures USA.

That separation also seems to be designed to keep Board of Education members blissfully unaware of the extent of non-school business, seemingly designed to build C. J. Huff's brand name, conducted on the taxpayers' dime.

If a teacher ends up on jury duty, they have to either be docked the day or turn in the jury pay. What does Huff have to give up for speaking engagements?

If a teacher wants to do something in the daytime that makes money, like referee a state tournament, that teacher has to forfeit his pay for the day. And he has to pay for his sub, but that won't matter because he'll be forced out anyway. But the superintendent and his employee who's supposed to be looking after Bright Futures can run around together all over the place and no one says a word. Good job, school board!
Mama must need a new pair of shoes. She heard Imelda Marcos had more than she does. Got to break that record too.
