You knew this was going to happen.
Watkins Elementary at Springfield is home to after-school meetings by the Bible-based Good News Club and now the Satanic Temple wants equal rights and is asking to hold an after-school club.
According to this report from Fox 5 in Springfield, the school is considering the request. It has to be fun times for the board of education and for Superintendent John Jungmann.
Readers, what do you think about this?

Testing those that demand religious freedom for themselves, but not for all.....
Other clubs are allowed, so this should be.
Just what the founding fathers had in mind
Jungmann will need to put down his beer long enough to man can that guy put em away. As for this "club", they should not be allowed. The satanic temple isn't an organized, or recognized, religion and should be treated as such. Local boards should hold the right to disallow any groups that promote hate, fear or evil. Here ya go Turner, let's get that Godless liberal base going. Lol
6:25 AM...." Local boards should hold the right to disallow any groups that promote hate, fear or evil." You are correct. So with that in mind, they should not allow a lot of the Christian groups such as Evangelicals to use the facility either! Besides, they are not actual "Satan-worshippers, they teach critical thinking which is desperately needed here, but even if they were....what's good for the goose is good for the gander!
If you are going to ban groups that promote hate, fear and/or evil, you might as well start with the Christians.
Actually, Satanism and Witchcraft have long been in the fears of Christians. With such a long history, it is difficult to deny that they are an organized and recognized religion. The government has also seen fit to recognize them as a religious organization.
Furthermore, the Satanic Temple does not believe in Satan as such. They are more akin to the Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster. Their beliefs have to do with bodily autonomy, scientific literacy, and most notably, challenging religious freedom.
It is easy to see the word "Satan" and assume hate, fear, etc. but those conclusions have no basis in fact. Will the school board do any research before making a denial? That remains to be seen, but I doubt it.
If the Satanic Temple are denied, the school will be dragged to court, and rightfully so. This is why religion should be kept out of all schools. To be honest though, I wouldn't mind seeing the Temple's lawyers make a laughing stock of the board should they be denied on that basis. Fortunately, the homophobia, abortion clinic bombings, etc. will make a strong case for the hatred espoused by Christians.
Ah, 6:25. Didn't get enough sleep? "Local boards should hold the right to disallow any groups that promote hate, fear or evil." You mean, like some strains of Christianity?
I demand a license plate that says, "Satan is My Homie."
9:11 am
Well written (explained) and SPOT ON!!!

Okay, allow me to shred 9:11 line by line for just a moment. First of all the government does not "recognize" and religion....that is to say, it is not the responsibility to determine what is and is not a religion. The only thing the government(in this case the IRS) does is declare tax exempt status. This is not the same thing as an "official recognition" by the government.
Secondly, yes, that may be the official message being given by these whackjobs but then again that's like me saying that I am forming a group called "The Jolly Nazis" and declaring that I I am advocating for the religious freedom for Jews. If that is truly the case, remove the name from you clan and name it more appropriately so that it true gains legitimacy and helps illustrate your cause.
The true meaning of the word "Satan" is cloaked evil, whether you believe in Satan or not is not consequential....the word then becomes a vehicle for the promotion of those ideals. It is not my job to research the word and try to figure out how some organization is attempting to use it.
Religion is being kept out of schools.....at the time these goons wanted to use it, it is more of a community center as no teaching or learning is taking place. I do agree with you on that point however, these meetings need to be moved somewhere else.
The only ones lawyers typically make a laughingstock out of is themselves......although they usually suck a lot of money out of clients in the process. They don't care about these causes and if they took a case in defense of this organization int he Midwest, they would likely not work much in the future, so as it goes....good luck.
Lastly, the other nonsense you listed such as homophobia, abortion clinic bombings,,,,,because someone who happens to be a radicalized christian kills and declare in the name of Christ, that encompasses all Christians? Absurd. That is the type of stereotyping taking place in the country and personally it disgusts me. So if the person that bombs or burns a church is an atheist that means all atheists are evil, hateful people? That type on non-intellectual thinking is something society can do without. There is plenty of hatred directed at Christians from atheists as well but simply lumping everyone into one category is shortsighted at best and extremely ignorant at worst. Get it together. Do your research before trying to formulate such a weak argument by finger pointing.
Steve Holmes 11:17: Yes I do mean that if an extremist group hijacks Christianity then they too should be disallowed.....The Westboro Baptist Church comes to mind. This isn't what Christianity is about and maybe you should do your research before giving a lowbrow comment. Just a thought.....
Whooooooo.....and BOOM! Well done 1:47. Lol....my man came with guns loaded!
1:47 what you stated makes very little sense. You must be a bible thumper. 9:11 points make a lot more sense.
6:42....awwwww, ya seem a little frustrated. 1:47 killed it and you know it........9:11's garbled, rambling nonsense dies not. You need to open your eyes to reality.
Oh, 1:47, 1:47, 1:47... Did you notice I said "some" strains of Christianity? I know I'm a lowbrow person, but how is that a lowbrow comment?
I gained a great respect for mainstream Christianity the way people responded to Joplin's tornado, coming from all over the country to share the love of God through good works. They will always have my gratitude. I'm not going to broad brush Christianity. It has too many people believing too many different things to generalize.
"because someone who happens to be a radicalized christian kills and declare in the name of Christ, that encompasses all Christians? Absurd. That is the type of stereotyping taking place in the country and personally it disgusts me."
The Muslims in America feel the same way.
Who's stereotyping? I agree with you it happens among atheists (which I am not). How widespread do you believe it to be (the more you believe it's rampant, the more examples I expect you to provide)?
8:15, what reality do I need to open my eyes to? I'm already facing the reality that the Royals won't win the Series this year. Sounds like you've got something else I should consider.
