Joplin R-8 Board expected to act on Kelli Price resignation Thursday night

The Joplin R-8 Board of Education is expected to act on the resignation of Director of Communications Kelli Price when it meets in closed session 6 p.m. Thursday prior to the regular meeting.

The opening for Price's position was posted Monday on the district website.

With the resignation of Price, the only remaining members of the C. J. Huff Administration who are still in R-8 upper administration is Executive Director of Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment Jennifer Doshier and CFO Paul Barr.

The former executive director of secondary education, Jason Cravens, was moved to the East Middle School principal position prior to the 2016-2017 school year.

Since Huff's "retirement" began 17 months ago, Buildings Project Director Mike Johnson retired, Curriculum Director Sarah Stevens resigned after being removed from her position and reassigned, COO Tina Smith resigned, and in recent weeks, Executive Director of Student Services Mark Barlass and Director of Early Childhood Education Amanda Boyer resigned under pressure.

Just before Huff's "retirement" took effect, he provided substantial raises to a handful of favored employees. The biggest went to Price, who saw her salary increase from $48,053 when she was classified as a "communications specialist" to $63,000 doing essentially the same work as director of communications.

The extra money for Price's increase came by eliminating 15 1,000 stipends that had been paid to district teachers to update the Facebook pages at their schools.

She goes, which is fine.

But they are going to keep the position?

Why?

I read the email she sent to those teachers whose stipend she was taking. It was just so sad. Gosh, the funds for their stipends had just dried up in the economic downturn. Such a shame after all of their hard work. They were so appreciated. Then the greedy b-word pocketed it and went on about the business of being CJ's lapdog and favorite snoop. Glad she's gone. It's taken way too long.

Paul Barr was there long before CJ

$1,000 to update FB page?

Paul Barr was there long before CJ

So was Besendorfer; the question to ask is how Barr cooperated with CJ in the district's financial messes, like the TIF district.

And I think that might be the key to if and when he goes: if FEMA refuses to reimburse the district for all that not preapproved "might as well" spending, the superintendent and board will have all the grounds they need to remove him, one way or another.

You are correct. That was a waste of money whether it went to teachers for maintaining FB or Price. That doesn't change that she lied to the teachers and took their funds for herself. Seems like those funds could have gone back for paying bills or raises or teaching materials. She didn't deserve it. Glad she's gone.

Barr is the CFO. He doesn't make the decisions, CJ and the board make the decisions.

Randy, do you know when the next word from FEMA will come about errors and omissions?

Barr is the CFO. He doesn't make the decisions, CJ and the board make the decisions.

But they make decisions based on his representations of situations. What did he say about the TIF district before it blew up?

And it's normally a duty of CFOs to blow the whistle on superiors like CJ when they make expenditures that require board approval without getting that first, yeah, I know it's rare....

And, yeah, ultimately the old board knew that was happening and was just fine with it. But I'm just talking about finding a sufficiently legitimate reason to pressure Barr into quietly resigning if he doesn't want to be fired in a blaze of career harming publicity. Although I suppose Rohr's ability to keep repeating his bad behavior and getting fired like that shows there's enough suckers out there, but, still, no need for Barr to make his job hunt harder, is there? The more quietly it's done, the more it can CJ can be blamed :-).

I haven't heard anything about any FEMA updates, Steve, and I did not see anything on Thursday night's agenda. The feds tend to work at their own pace.

And they still aren't knocking down your door to fill the positions with all your knowledge on, well everything? Thought you had all the answers Turner? Geezz...I'm shocked.

Thank you, Randy. The waiting game goes on.

When asked to comment, Price indicated that " the district has no comment as this is a personnel matter"

.....which was pretty much her trademark statement for her time with the district

I didn't know that there were "stipends" for Facebook "work". No teacher should get a "Facebook stipend" for work outside the business of teaching.

Your Facebook antics in which you just had to have unsupervised contact with the kids should have got you fired. Instead, it was this blog of yours. That and you are such a nasty vicious back-biting snake.

I don't know (or much care) what this woman did to you Turner, other than serve CJ Huff. So you simply must gloat when she loses her job. It seems that all you public school teachers not only think you are entitled to a public-service job but that you have title to turn the younger generation into whining puling moral degenerate "special snowflakes" unable to be happy and satisfied, much less keep our civilization running. Thanks to you now we all know that public school teachers are as nearly as big of lying scumbags as journalists.

The reason those of us who despise you read your blog is because it takes a lone creeping-jesus scumbag to dox-out entire packs of other bottom-trough tax-feeders. Well done..

It seems like nobody who takes risks or stands out can expect to make it to retirement in the snake-pit that is public education. In the long run everyone who goes beyond simply quietly obeying the rules and teaching the kids the curriculum established by the educrat establishment gets purged.
