Seventy-two cases were confirmed over a 24-hour period, according to statistics posted on the city's COVID-19 dashboard.
The number of people who are under quarantine nearly doubled, increasing from 144 to 281, while active cases went from 144 at the beginning of the reporting period to 187.
To date, Joplin has confirmed 931 cases, with at least 388 of those confirmed in the past three weeks. The accompanying screenshot of the Joplin COVID-19 dashboard shows the statistics as reported through Friday, August 20, three days after the Joplin City Council voted 5-4 to open up the city.
In that time, just short of three weeks, the number of Joplin residents hospitalized has almost quadrupled, increasing from three to 11, while the COVID-19 units at Mercy and Freeman hospitals, which held 36 patients at that time, now have 50.
The number of people who are under quarantine has also skyrocketed. The total was 129 August 20. Through Thursday, the cutoff time on the statistics posted today, 281 people are quarantined.

Here we go again! More and more People are coming down with Covid-19 and the City Council of Joplin - - can figure it out that they need to Mandate - Mask Wearing. Kansas City, Missouri Residents are required to Wear Masks until January 16, 2021. What do they know that the IDIOTS running Joplin - Do Not? Since there is no Cure they only thing you can do is Isolate and if you need to go out - "WEAR A MASK" to protect you and others. Such a Simple Thing - - Again, this is not a Republican or Democrat Issue - or anything or anyone trying to take your Rights or Freedoms away - this is a Medical Issue - - You have to Wear Your Seat Belt - You cannot Smoke in Restaurants - these are Simple Rules / Laws that everyone must Follow - - Why is it so Hard for People to Comprehend - - This could Safe Your Life or Someone You Love and Care For.

People are stupid. We don't need a mandate to make us wear a mask. Just wear one to protect yourself and others. What are you? Two years old?
I hope you are smarter than that.
It's not the city councils fault or Trumps fault, it's a personal responsibility.

We don't need a mandate to wear a mask? Have you been to Walmart or even it's prettier cousin Target? It's required and still people walk around with no masks. The likelihood of transmission greatly decreases when BOTH parties wear a mask, so that while me and my children wearing a mask is great in protecting ignorant people who refuse masks, it doesn't help as much as it could if the other party would also wear a mask. It's a common curtesy, don't smoke around people and wear a freaking mask. Use a turn signal. Wear a mask. If it means a mandate (because that did help last time), DO IT.
