Lisa D. Sharp, 51, Neosho, a front office employee with the Newton County Sheriff's Office was killed in a head-on collision 8:18 a.m. today on U. S. 60, three miles east of Granby.

"Today, the Newton County Sheriff's Office lost one of her own," Sheriff Chris Jennings said in a post on the Sheriff's Office Facebook page.

"Lisa was a friend to us all. We are a family here and her sudden passing has impacted us all greatly. Our prayers go out to her family and the rest of her friends."

Sharp was on her way to work, the sheriff said, when the accident occurred.

According to the Highway Patrol report, the 2015 Ford Escape Sharp was driving hydroplaned on wet pavement, crossed the centerline and struck a 2011 Freightliner tractor-trailer driven by Leonardo R. Vasallo, 65, Dallas, Texas, head-on.

Sharp was pronounced dead at the scene by Newton County Coroner Dale Owen.
