Anderson man receives 10-year sentence for killing man in head-on crash while driving drunk


An Anderson man who killed a man while driving drunk was sentenced Thursday in McDonald County Circuit Court to 10 years in prison for involuntary manslaughter, but he may be back on the streets as soon as four months from now.

Vincent P. Castro (DOB 1997) caused the crash that killed David F. Cunningham, 65, Anderson, 8:25 a.m. August 22, 2022 on MO 59/North Route NN inside the Anderson city limits.

According to the Highway Patrol report, a 2004 Nissan Armada driven by Castro crossed the center line and struck a 2010 Toyota Tacoma driven by Cunningham, 65, Anderson, head on.









Cunningham was airlifted to Freeman West Hospital, where he was pronounced dead by Dr. Kevin Christian at 9:55 a.m.

According to McDonald County Circuit Court online records, Castro will be placed in a 120-day institutional treatment program. At that time, the Department of Corrections will make a recommendation on whether Castro should receive probation.
