Probable cause: Joplin woman says she's using meth to cope with stressful times

A Joplin woman was charged with possession of a controlled substance, following a traffic stop for expired plates Tuesday night.

According to the probable cause statement, which was filed today in Jasper County Circuit Court, Devin Marie Holden (DOB 1988) was taken to the Joplin City Jail after the traffic stop when it was discovered she had three outstanding warrants.

From the probable cause statement:

While Ms. Holden was being searched by a jail supervisor, the supervisor located crystal like substance in a clear baggie in the front right pocket of Ms. Holden's jeans.

Ms. Holden told the jail supervisor the substance was drugs. When the jail supervisor showed me the substance, I knew based off my training and experience the substance was methamphetamine.

I mirandized Ms. Holden, who stated she understood her rights and wished to speak with me. She stated the crystal-like substance was "meth" and that she was using it at the time to cope with the stressful times she was having in her life.

Bond was set at $3,000 cash or surety.

The case was investigated by the Joplin Police Department.
