McDonald County deputy charged with sex crime

A McDonald County deputy who helped find the body of nine-year-old murder victim Rowan Ford of Stella has been charged with statutory sodomy involving sex with a 14-year-old girl, according to an article in today's Joplin Globe:

A state grand jury, convened six months ago to hear evidence brought in McDonald County cases, has indicted Jacob A. Boles, 27, on two counts of second-degree statutory sodomy. The indictments prompted Boles’ arrest by the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

The state patrol investigated allegations brought against Boles at the request of the Children’s Division of the Missouri Department of Social Services. But Sgt. Kent Casey of the patrol’s Carthage office on Monday referred all questions concerning the investigation to the McDonald County prosecutor’s office.

Prosecutor Janice Durbin told the Globe that the indictments allege that Boles had deviate sexual intercourse Dec. 11 and Jan. 21 with a girl in McDonald County. Durbin said the girl is 14 years old. Durbin declined to explain how the allegations came to light.

I just don't get it. I don't understand how someone could do something like this (if he is indeed guilty.) Especially if he's one of the ones who found Rowan Ford's broken and abused body. How can you find that and then turn around and sexually abuse a child?

Perhaps he had a "clue" where to look for that boy on the way to work. There is obviously more to this story than we now know. How pitiful.

He did have a clue: A tip from the FBI to check out the sinkhole, on the advice of Newton County Coroner Mark Bridges. The day before the body was discovered, David Spears led Bridges to the site, saying that was a place "he would hide a body." Bridges saw something in the sinkhole, but couldn't tell if it was a blanket or paper. It was enough to make him suspicious, though. This has all been reported by area news outlets.
