KOAM breaks story on shooting of former Jasper County officer

Give KOAM credit for chasing down the sad story of the shooting of former Jasper County Sheriff's Department lieutenant Milton Ganz.

While KODE, KSN, and the Joplin Globe have yet to report Ganz' identity, KOAM had the information on its 10 p.m. newscast and on its website:

Jasper County Sheriffs department says when police arrived they found former lieutenant Milton Ganz, when he refused to lower his gun, they were forced to opened fire.
Jasper County's sheriff office says that Ganz had been taking the loss of his friend Jerry Gilbert very hard and this could be what led him to last nights altercation.
"The subject was distraught," said Lt. Brian Lewis of Joplin Police. "And made statements to take his life. When the officers arrived he had a weapon -- he pointed at the officers. Then they had to fire upon the subject."
Jasper County's sheriff's office says that he made it through surgery and that the next few days will be critical for him.

I have known Milton Ganz for 17 years and served in the Marine Corps with him during Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm. Milton served his country honorably and was the best machine-gunner in our unit. Additionally, he continued to serve the public for 13 years as a law enforcement officer. He was asked to resign from the Sheriff's Department after a low-life corporal rallied the support of a few other "officers" to try to bring charges of creating a "hostile work environment". Ganz, being a former Marine, has a very direct, but effective, leadership style, so it was fairly easy to find a couple of other young "officers" to join the crusade. The corporal was told by Ganz that he could not use a county credit card to buy meals at a training conference and that he needed to pack his lunches if he could not afford to buy his own lunches. Part of the training that he attended was on "hostile work environments". He began texting others and formulating the plan to have Ganz fired. However, knowing Ganz's service record, upper management in the Sheriff's Department asked him to resign. Now the Jasper County Sheriff's Department has lost a great public servant and is stuck with an oversensitive cry-baby who can't take orders (critical in both military and law enforcement environments). I am sure this corporal who has such a lack of integrity, would be willing to tell all kinds of "stories" in an attempt to undermine Ganz's character. However, his record speaks for itself. I am sure the loss of his job due to some spineless snot effected Milton's ability to reason as well as all the other negative circumstances that he was experiencing at the time. It was and continues to be an honor to have served in the Marine Corps with Milton Ganz. God bless you Milton and recover quickly!
