It wasn't known in advance if Kennedy would speak, but his presence alone was expected to be a reminder of the party's glory years, and that Obama is about to inherit the family legacy, said Rep. John Lewis, D-Ga., a 1960s civil-rights movement veteran who was close to Robert Kennedy.
"Barack Obama may be one of the first people to inspire others the way John F. Kennedy did and Robert F. Kennedy did," said Lewis, who was to appear in the video tribute, in an interview Monday.
