Report- Special interests pay for Billy Long's week-long trip to Japan

It's not summertime, but the living has been easy for Seventh District Congressman Billy Long and some of his colleagues.

The national magazine Roll Call reports that the Aspen Institute footed the bill for Long to the tune of $9,377:

The Aspen Institute, which does not disclose which corporations, trade associations, or individuals give to the organization, paid over $200,000 to send 13 members of Congress and eight spouses to a conference in Kyoto, Japan, from April 11th through the 18th. The conference was on America’s Rebalance toward Asia: Trade, Security and Resource Interests in the Pacific.

Receiving the gift of free travel and accommodations were Rep. Vern Buchanan, R-Fla., and spouse $20,983; Rep. Jason Chaffetz, R-Utah, and spouse $15,898; Rep. Ander Crenshaw, R-Fla., and spouse $21,290; Rep. Scott Garrett, R-N.J., and spouse $9,526; Rep. Zoe Lofgren, D-Calif., and spouse $16,774; Rep. Billy Long, R-Mo., $9,377 (did not accept free travel on return trip); Rep. Doris Matsui, D-Calif., $9,070; Rep Mike McIntyre, D-N.C., $17,660; Rep. George Miller, D-Calif., and spouse $16,774; Rep. Patrick Nunnelee, R-Miss., and spouse $18,524; Rep. David Price, D-N.C., and spouse $17,620 (Price stayed another 4 days at personal expense); Rep. Peter Roskam, R-Ill., and spouse $18,774; Rep. Janice Schakowsky, D-Ill., $9,987.

Oh great now he's embarrassing us in Asia. Wish I could apologize to them.

Why is everyone so envious of Billy Long? A free trip to Japan, maybe they treated him well there? Small minded people have trouble appreciating the fine finish the good life will get you.

It's is harder than people think doing the people's work in Washington D.C., or wherever you have to go to play poker or meet with your fellow citizen legislators and lobbyists. Who in Joplin wouldn't like to live a life like this? Well except for the socialists.

A little relaxation and networking, you know they know how to do it right in Japan (even though their bungalows are smaller than the ones here): "massaged, played classical music, fed booze, and pampered in every way".

Again, even if all the drinks were free, someone would find something to complain about.

Look, I know sumo wrestling never really caught on here, but if Billy can earn money through legitimate work, I'm all for it.

Where did Billy's return trip end up? Was that bill pickled up by another special interest group?
