Hearing set in Neosho hit-and-run case

The man charged with felony leaving the scene of an accident in connection with the death of Matthew Stevens, 19, Neosho, is scheduled to be in Newton County Circuit Court for a hearing Wednesday, according to online court records.

Oren Rea Rinehart, 61, was charged after coming forward nearly two weeks after the September 12 accident. Rinehart was arrested after being questioned in the office of his attorney Charles Ross Rhoades.

Rinehart told police that he thought he had hit a deer.

The Newton County prosecuting attorney has left the option open of filing further charges against Rinehart.
