McCaskill strategy explored in Washington Post article

State Auditor Claire McCaskill's strategy of spending a considerable amount of time in southwest Missouri is explored in today's Washington Post:

McCaskill thinks her close race against incumbent Jim Talent (R) will hinge on winning votes in places such as Springfield, where Democrats in recent years had virtually given up trying to break the GOP's lock on culturally conservative voters.

The article offers some interesting points of view, including its continued references to Missouri as being in the upper South. Funny thing, I have always considered this state to be in the Midwest.

It's interesting to see differences in what region our state is believed to be in.

I consider Missouri to be more of a Southern state than a Midwest - the Midwest to me is Indiana, Illinois, Ohio...

But I have seen our state listed as Midwestern, Southern, and even Southwestern so there seems to be a wide difference of thought about just where we belong.
