Hearing canceled for former Neosho police officer, judge bows out

The bond appearance hearing for former Neosho police officer Justin Pickup, originally scheduled for today, was canceled, according to Newton County Circuit Court documents.
Pickup, 23, faces a misdemeanor charge of endangering the welfare of a child, after he allegedly bought vodka for 16-year-old Kassie Schenck, Neosho, shortly before she was killed in a one-car accident on Dec. 21.
Pickup's lawyer, Charles Rhoades, Neosho, asked for and was granted a change of judge. The case, which is being prosecuted by the attorney general's office, has been sent in for reassignment.
Pickup is free after posting a $5,000 bond.
