Joe Biden coming to Joplin for cutting of six-and-a-half-mile ribbon

Vice President Joe Biden will be in Joplin Friday, October 3, for the grand opening of the new Joplin High School/Franklin Technical Center.

The announcement was made today to all district staff. It had been previously announced that Secretary of Education Arne Duncan will also be here for the grand celebration, which will include the cutting of a six-and-a-half-mile ribbon, a stunt which is designed to put the school district in the Guiness Book of World Records.

District officials are in the act of coordinating travel for the day since all high school, middle school, and elementary school personnel will be required to be at the high school.

"Rarely is the question asked: Is our children learning?"

What a bunch of rubes over in Joplin. The biggest ribbon and the lowest scores and an auditor on their backs, and they think they can make a distraction from a lame duck VP and a Secretary of Education that is not even liked by his own party. What a joke for a district.

You forgot to attribute that delightful quote to George W. Bush, who brought us NCLB and nonstop assessments. And the answer to that question in Joplin is, no, the children are not learning, and thanks to George Bush, we can prove that with data.

Wonder is Joe will remember what he told Barry a few years back and whisper the same words in Huff's ear. "This is a big f*cking deal."
