Student reporters' investigation results in resignation of high school principal

Less than a month after she was hired as Pittsburg High School principal, Dr. Amy Robertson has submitted her resignation.

The resignation came after reporters for the PHS newspaper, the Booster Redux published a through investigative report detailing discrepancies in Robertson's resume.

Probably the next investigation the students should do is on the quality of the background investigations the district does when it is hiring administrators and if it plans to do it differently as it searches for Robertson's replacement.

The district issued the following news release:

On March 6, Amy Robertson was hired by the Pittsburg Community Schools' Board of Education to become the head principal at Pittsburg High School. On April 4, 2017, Dr. Robertson resigned from her contract with Pittsburg Community Schools USD250.

In light of the issues that arose, Dr. Robertson felt it was in the best interest of the district to resign her position. The Board has agreed to accept her resignation.

The Board will reopen the position and begin the process anew.

The resignation came before a special board meeting which had been scheduled for tonight to discuss the questions that had been raised about the new principal.

The students' complete story can be found at this link.

Gives you hope there is a generation coming up that is willing to ask questions and look for answers. Good generation of journalists arriving on scene!

Shame on the Pittsburg Morning Sun and the Joplin Globe for ignoring this story. The Kansas City Star has published two stories about it.

The Pittsburg Morning Sun finally wrote a story about it, but they were scooped by the Kansas City Star and the Washington Post. Still nothing in the Joplin Globe.
