Neosho businessman's sentencing on fraud, money laundering charges delayed due to COVID-19

The sentencing of Neosho businessman Russell Grundy, 50, on fraud and money laundering charges is scheduled for 9:30 a.m. October 16 in U. S. District Court for the Western District of Missouri in Springfield.

The sentencing was originally planned for August 27, but was continued due to COVID-19, according to online court records. No further explanation was provided.

Grundy was the former owner of Innovative Objects in Joplin.

In a sentencing memorandum filed August 18, Assistant U. S. Attorney Patrick Carney asked the judge to give Grundy the maximum sentence under federal guidelines, eight years, not just for the crimes for which he is charged, but also for further crimes committed while he was free on bond awaiting sentencing.

The judge sealed Grundy's sentencing memorandum and the government's responses to it, at Grundy's request.
