Federal grand jury indicts Joplin man on meth trafficking, weapons charges

A federal grand jury indicted a Joplin man on meth trafficking and weapons charges.

The indictment, which was handed down August 25 and unsealed today in U. S. District Court for the Western District of Missouri, alleges Nathan Scott Thomas, 41, was in possession of more than 50 grams of methamphetamine with intent to distribute on January 29 in Jasper County.

At that time, Thomas also was in possession of two weapons in furtherance of drug trafficking, according to the indictment, a Ruger LLP .380 caliber semi-automatic pistol and a Jiminez 9 mm. semi-automatic pistol.

A third count charges Thomas with possessing those weapons though he was prohibited from doing so.

Thomas was initially arrested by the Ozarks Drug Enforcement Team on similar state charges.

Jasper County Circuit Court online records indicate Thomas was bound over for trial and is scheduled to be arraigned October 13 in the trial division.
