Newton County records two COVID-19 deaths, 29 new cases


The Newton County Health Department reported its 19th and 20th deaths due to COVID-19 in a news release issued Friday afternoon.

Both victims were men in their 60s, had been battling COVID-19 symptoms and had underlying conditions, according to the news release.

The county recorded 29 new coronavirus cases since Thursday, bringing the total to 1,257.

The number of people who are in isolation increased from 153 to 166 while the number who are hospitalized went from three to four.

The statistics do not include the portion of Newton County that is located in the Joplin city limits.
