Probable cause: Joplin man punched woman in the face, shot a man in the chest

The Jasper County Prosecuting Attorney's office filed assault (two counts) and armed criminal action charges Friday against a Joplin man who allegedly shot another man in the chest and punched a woman in the face.

An arrest warrant was issued for Deandre Anthony Martin (DOB 2000) with no bond.

From the probable cause statement:

On August 18, 2024, at approximately 02:03 hours, the Joplin Police Department was dispatched to a residence in Joplin, Missouri, Jasper County, for a reported shooting.

Upon officers’ arrival, they located Victim 1 with a gunshot wound to his chest. Victim 1 was transported to a local hospital where he was treated for serious physical injuries.

Victim 2 reported that she was at the residence for a party, when she was punched in the face by Deandre Martin, causing physical injury.

According to Victim 2 and Witness 1, Victim 1 stepped in to defend Victim 2 from further assault by Martin. Martin then shot Victim 1 in the chest with a black semi-automatic handgun.
